Talking books

MTM is the national centre for the inter-library lending of talking books and maintains a stock of 63 000 DAISY talking book titles and 28 000 analogue talking book titles (August 2008); aquiring approximately 3 000 books annually. TPB´s stock contains books in fifty different languages.

DAISY – Digital Accessible Information system – is a set of hardware and software tools to record, store, transfer, and read digital audio books. A DAISY digital talking book is played on a cd-rom disc, containing up to 50 hours of narration. The reader can navigate between chapters, sections, and pages. Bookmarks can be placed anywhere in the talking book and notes (written or narrated) can be made in relation to the text. A DAISY talking book is read on a pc with cd-rom drive and a specific reading programme or in a special talking book player.

The DAISY Consortium is in charge of the continuous development of the DAISY standard. All titles at TPB are being produced as DAISY digital talking books.
